This years August Bank Holiday saw Wooldale Community Centre hold a Summer Fate to generate funds to help contribute to the shortfall of funding due to withdrawn support from Kirklees Council.
To support the event students from Lightfoot School of Dancing gave visitors to the fate a sneak preview of one of their routines planned for this years annual show.

Wooldale Community Centre now has to rise it’s own funds given Kirklees Council’s recent decision that it can no longer provide financial support for the Centre.
The Communities Governing committee sought the view of the local residents the Centre served, to see whether there was the appetite to support the Centre given it will no longer have the financial support of the Council.
The committee did this by calling a general meeting and inviting the local community to attend. The meeting exceeded everybody’s expectations in terms of the number of local residents that attended and the overwhelming support from the local community that the Community Centre continued to remain an important part of the village’s life.
Given that additional revenue must be found, a separate Social Committee was formed to generate cash from fund raising events.
The first of these events was organised for this August Bank Holiday and was supported by Lightfoot School of Dancing with some of the children from the Freestyle Rosettes and the 1st Rosettes dancing to the music of the Teddy Bears Picnic.
The dancers so impressed their audience that they received a standing ovation! 🙂
The Local Member of Parliament, Jason McCartney, congratulated all of the boys and girls on their dancing and took time out of his busy schedule to have this photograph taken:-
Miss Kathie, the school’s principle, who was closely involved with the event as the Chair of the Community Centre’s Social Committee, commented on how pleased she was with the children especially as, due to School holidays, the last time the children practiced the dance was 4 weeks before, “I was really worried that they would have forgotten every step she said!”
Summer Holidays are upon us and Lightfoot School of Dancing hopes everyone gets to enjoy this summer of rest and relaxation.
The school is now closed until the 1st September 2014.

Not only that, but every student successfully passed their examination!
Miss Holly’s immediate response when told everyone taking a exam passed was – “Wow, how proud are we!”
So a great big “Well Done” to all the pupils who’s hard work leading up to the examinations resulted in a pass or in 36 cases honours and in over a hundred other cases highly commended!
Now work begins on November’s Show and next January’s examinations!
As Brucie’ says “Keep Dancing”…
The International Dance Teachers Association Examinations that took place last month, were a terrific success, with over 300 Examinations taking place and every one of them being passed.
Well done to all the students for such a fantastic result.
