Lightfoot School of Dancing Supports Wooldale Community Centre

Dancing made Fun!

Lightfoot School of Dancing Supports Wooldale Community Centre

Wooldale Community Centre now has to rise it’s own funds given Kirklees Council’s recent decision that it can no longer provide financial support for the Centre.

The Communities Governing committee sought the view of the local residents the Centre served, to see whether there was the appetite to support the Centre given it will no longer have the financial support of the Council.

The committee did this by calling a general meeting and inviting the local community to attend. The meeting exceeded everybody’s expectations in terms of the number of local residents that attended and the overwhelming support from the local community that the Community Centre continued to remain an important part of the village’s life.

Given that additional revenue must be found, a separate Social Committee was formed to generate cash from fund raising events.

The first of these events was organised for this August Bank Holiday and was supported by Lightfoot School of Dancing with some of the children from the Freestyle Rosettes and the 1st Rosettes dancing to the music of the Teddy Bears Picnic.

The dancers so impressed their audience that they received a standing ovation! 🙂

The Local Member of Parliament, Jason McCartney, congratulated all of the boys and girls on their dancing and took time out of his busy schedule to have this photograph taken:-

Miss Kathie, the school’s principle, who was closely involved with the event as the Chair of the Community Centre’s Social Committee, commented on how pleased she was with the children especially as, due to School holidays, the last time the children practiced the dance was 4 weeks before, “I was really worried that they would have forgotten every step she said!”
